Report: Summer Biathlon in Mackensen 2002

Yesterday, on 8th June 2002, the 16th Summer Biathlon of Mackensen took place.

As well as during the last winter season a couple of AHFC members (Joerg, MarkusH, Jens, Danthe, Ann), Kruemel of the UDFC/KAFC and Dani of the UDFC, as well as the FC-less Dietmar spontaneously decided to go there to surprise our member Lutz with our presence.

After having found each other after a more or less long journey, and after fortifying ourselves, we went to the track, or better to say to the shooting range, to meet Lutz. He could not trust his eyes when he saw us. After a short conversation he already had to leave again, because he had to go onto the track early and, later on, he still had to help at the shooting range.

It didn't last long either and he appeared at the shooting range. There he managed to hit the five targets in a very good time. During the second shooting he unfortunately missed one target, but he kept cool and left the shooting range on fast feet. We went back to the start/finish area to receive him there.

Thanks to Kruemel’s connections we have been invited for a cup of coffee and home-made cakes by family Kraft. We think that was a very very nice gesture! Afterwards we went back to the track once again to watch Frank Luck and Roman Boettcher running.

Before the presentation ceremony started there still was an autographing session at which we stocked up on the latest autograph cards of Frank Luck from SLC. Before the presentation ceremony finally started, we still raised some “Cowards” with Mrs Kraft and clinked glasses on our athletes.

Finally the winners of the 3000 m competition were called. With a lot of joy we heard that Lutz had reached the 2nd place.

CONGRATULATIONS LUTZ!!!!!!!!!

Following the presentation ceremony the real party started. They started to celebrate this day with live music now.

Lutz then still invited us to come home with him, and we even were allowed to try the latest ice creations of Langnese and analyzed his running, with which he was very satisfied now, by video.

Unfortunately we had to leave now and said goodbye to Danthe and Kruemel, who set of home. The rest of us went on a pilgrimage to the Ruhr, where Jens was brought to his train back to Cologne.

For the rest of the team the day ended in a pleasant round.
